openSUSE 11.4 GM

After the dust has settled and I've used the GM release for a couple of days I thought that I would write up what does and doesn't work for my part.

Stuff that doesn't work
VMWare workstation; It will not compile the needed modules after install. A patch was made for 11.4 RC1 if I remember correctly, but it doesn't seem to be updated to support the GM release yet.

In about 21 hours, writing time. openSUSE 11.4 will be released into the wild. Finally. This is one release I've really waited for. Aldo I have been running it on my main machine for the past week via the RC2 release, but it's always nice to be able to do that final upgrade to the stable GM release.

So, what's new in openSUSE 11.4? Well, a lot, as usual =)

* KDE 4.6
* Kernel 2.6.37
* LibreOffice (First stable release)
* And many many more...

It's finally starting to get close to the new openSUSE release, this time it's 11.3 that's on it's way out of the door. And it will be released on July 15.

There are a lot of new and improved stuff in this release. Take a look at the initial screenshot tour and later on I will try to have a more detailed write up about what's new.

KDE 4.3 finally released

KDE 4.3

It's a great day, KDE 4.3 is available for download/upgrade.
The KDE community has fixed over 10,000 bugs and implemented almost 2,000 feature requests in the last 6 months. This is very impressive and it really shows in this great release.

I for one have been sceptic towards KDE 4 and especially the early releases. It's a brand new game now, everything works as expected and you get to work in a solid desktop enviroment loaded with lots and lots of eye candy.
